Chaos Group is giving away V-Ray for Blender for free. I have great memories working with V-Ray in 3ds Max — we did a lot together. But V-Ray in Blender? Who needs it now? Yes, industry standard. But I just tested it after 5 years on Cycles, and I'm disappointed. It's the same V-Ray as 10-15 years ago, with the same problems. You hit render, and you wait. And wait. And wait. With my RTX 3060, I never spend more than 2 minutes rendering at 4K. In rare cases, a complex scene with a ton of displacement, maybe 5 minutes. V-Ray — the simplest possible scene, 1280×720 — 5 minutes to render. And it looks terrible technically. Massive noise that even Denoise didn't clean up. Meanwhile, Cycles renders scenes like that almost instantly. Yes, V-Ray definitely has a ton of advantages and more fine-tuned controls. But you need that in 1 out of 10 tasks, if not less. Don't waste your time on this.
