In 2016, a woman in rural Rwanda was hemorrhaging during childbirth. A hospital texted for blood. Minutes later, a Zipline drone launched. 10 minutes after that, it parachuted type O negative to the landing zone. The mother and baby both survived. That system now supplies 75% of Rwanda's blood and has cut maternal mortality by 51%.

NEWS: Zipline's last 2 CFOs both came out of Tesla's finance team Sendil Palani, who spent 17 years at Tesla and left as VP of Finance in March, has joined the autonomous delivery company as chief financial officer. His predecessor in the role was Deepak Ahuja, Tesla's CFO through the 2010 IPO and the Model 3 ramp. Ahuja recommended Palani for the job personally. Palani joined Tesla in January 2009, days after it nearly went under at Christmas 2008. The company had roughly 300 employees and was building 1 car a day. Zipline has flown 135 million autonomous miles and completed 2.5 million commercial deliveries, 1 million of them in the past year, with no safety incident. It expects its US business to grow 15 times this year and can build 24,000 drones annually at its South San Francisco plant. Elon Musk replied to Palani's farewell post in March. 🔺️A tourist identified as 40-year-old Tamirah Yasmeen Dix, a resident of Atlanta, Georgia, died Saturday night after suffering an apparent incident while at a zipline in Orocovis, PR 🇵🇷 ​According to preliminary information, the woman allegedly received a heavy blow to the face as she was preparing to go down the zipline. Based on the account provided by her relatives to agents of the Criminal Investigation Corps (CIC) of Vega Baja, Dix completed the course and later reunited with them. ​Following the activity, the group went to have lunch, but the tourist stated she did not wanted to eat. Shortly after, she went to the bathroom, where she vomited. Given the deterioration of her health, her relatives chose to return to the hotel where they were staying in Dorado. ​While traveling along Highway PR-693, the woman’s condition worsened, leading them to call the 9-1-1 Emergency System. An ambulance intercepted the vehicle and transported the tourist to the Orlando Health Doctor Center hospital in Dorado, where doctors attempted to resuscitate her. Nevertheless, she was pronounced dead at nightfall. ​The body will be transported to the Institute of Forensic Sciences in Río Piedras, where an autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death.
