BREAKING: Impulse Space Raises $500M Series D Reaching $1+ Billion in Total Funding to Build In-Space Mobility Infrastructure aka "Move Things in Space" Full interview w/ President & COO Eric Romo (@_Eric_Romo) (SpaceX Employee #13) Founder & CEO Tom Mueller (@lrocket) (SpaceX Employee #1): "We're building more than spacecraft: we're building the economic & technical engine that will power humanity's expansion into space. From Earth orbit to the Moon & beyond, the ability to move quickly, precisely, & affordably on orbit is the fundamental capability that will unlock a true space age." We cover: → The $500M raise → Mira: precision maneuvering → Helios: same-day delivery → Caravan: GEO rideshare → Commercial vs defense → Space Force demand → SpaceX origins → Hiring 200+ roles The Series D was co-led by @137ventures & BANNER VC. Additional participating investors include Founder’s Fund, Lux Capital, & Linse Capital. Tom Mueller @lrocket says he left SpaceX to start Impulse Space because after developing the Merlin engine and working on Starship for 6 years, he realized launch was essentially solved: "When I left, I had the plan of launch mostly being solved or is being solved. The next big opportunity is to move all that payload, all that cargo around in space." "So I started Impulse Space to do in-space transportation as opposed to from Earth to space transportation, which was SpaceX." @elonmusk

Can companies responsibly build a business model around Starship? .@_Eric_Romo, President & COO of @GoToImpulse doesn't think so. "Why would you (@SpaceX) sell a thing you don’t have enough of for yourself, at a bargain-basement price, to your competitors? The logic just doesn’t hold anywhere there. And it’s just sort of the wishful thinking of, “Well, because I want it,” that these companies say they’re going to get this at a low price. And the reality is, in the market, this is the same thing that happened with Falcon 9."

The Space Force is turning launch into an orbital logistics network... Impulse Space and Relativity bring National Security Space Launch Lane 1 to seven providers, expanding the government’s ability to launch, replace and reposition national security assets without relying on a single rocket, company or path to orbit... A proliferated satellite architecture requires proliferated access to space... more launch vehicles, more providers and faster contracting create the resilience needed to keep the orbital layer alive during conflict... Impulse extends the rail beyond launch by moving payloads between orbits... Relativity adds reusable medium-to-heavy lift capacity for larger missions and repeatable access... The military is building the orbital transportation layer first... industry, cargo and people follow... Trip to space, anyone? Note: Lane 1 accelerates lower risk commercial style launches through broader competition, while Lane 2 handles the most critical missions under the highest assurance standards...
