This is just the beginning, the amount of manufacturing done in space only goes up from here. Varda Space Industries just signed a major deal with United Therapeutics to develop drugs in microgravity. The partnership will use Varda’s uncrewed, autonomous capsules (launched on SpaceX Transporter missions) to crystallize therapeutic compounds in orbit. Microgravity allows molecules to form more uniform, perfect crystals — leading to better stability, easier delivery (e.g., injection instead of long IV infusions), longer shelf life, and potentially fewer side effects. Varda has already flown six missions and is ramping up cadence. United Therapeutics is focusing on improved treatments for rare lung diseases like pulmonary arterial hypertension. Varda co-founder Delian Asparouhov called it a historic milestone: “This is the first time that a large, publicly traded company is using capital from their own balance sheet… to build and produce a product in microgravity. I do think it’s a really good historical moment for the space industry.” 📸 @VardaSpace

🚨 $ONDS BREAKING: NASA SEEKS TO RAISE IDIQ CEILING FOR FLIGHT OPPORTUNITIES PROGRAM; TAPS WORLD VIEW OF $ONDS, $RKLB, BLUE ORIGIN, & OTHERS 🚨 NASA has published a notice seeking to increase the combined ceiling of the Flight Opportunities 4 IDIQ — contract 80AFRC24DA006 — managed by Armstrong Flight Research Center. We can now confirm that this is the same contract vehicle under which World View already holds active task orders for stratospheric flight services. NASA established the FO4 IDIQ in March 2024 to provide flight and payload integration services across six flight profiles with a combined ceiling of $45M. NASA is now seeking to increase that $45M combined ceiling. Note: the increase amount has not been disclosed. The 15 companies on the expanded vehicle: Astro Digital Near Space Aerostar International Angstrom Designs Varda Space Industries World View of $ONDS Space Exploration Technologies Momentus Space Spire Global Loft Orbital Federal Astrobotic Technology Galactic Enterprises Tyvak Nano-Satellite Systems Rocket Lab USA $RKLB Blue Origin World View is already receiving task orders under this vehicle, as I've discussed previously. NASA is now raising that IDIQ ceiling. $ONDS is in some good company here.
